finally! a demo of sleepwalkin' / triptalkin', fat tone thanks to one of ralf's hand-crafted carvins
burning man preparations are running ahead full steam but we've still made time for TEQUILAUGUST and a couple of jams, even with special guest and good friend Ralf! Pete's also been testing out his nifty cybershot digicam, and has shot some video footage from a couple of our practice sessions. finally, check out the latest version of clover, now with vocals: video (RAW, UNCUT mpg files hosted on Pete's server):July has been a busy month right from the start! To where, as my friend Maria asks, have the days of summer indolence gone? why to the Vibrant Campout of course! the loonnngggg weekend of the 4th was once again as magical as ever up in Willits, Mendocino County. I've also been covering for Natasha on KFJC Friday's at 10pm plus this week is Freq Week where DJs are encouraged to get freqE and really push the envelope of good radio (and bad taste ;)
thankfully July has proved fruitful as well - check out the final mixdown of on the prowl, sax et al.:
Michael has laid down some sax parts to "on the prowl" !!! verse + chorus parts are pretty good to go but Mike's still experimenting with the verse out section. note: mixdown has not yet been polished (no need to critique just yet :) but check out the following previews (mp3 format back by popular demand):
Sunday, June 12 was The Day of the Fax @ KFJC - 24hrs of electonica and ambient music from Fax Records, Frankfurt Germany. From noon until 4pm PDT Fitz Ludlow and I spun some of our favorite gems from this prolific label. The label's founder himself, Pete Namlook, called into the special later that evening to chat a bit about the record business as seen from his side of the pond. Archived mp3s of this special are on the way...
On the DJ front I helped Hookahdome do some fabulous entertaining at Burning Man Centraal for Sparkclub '05 - a kickoff party for this year's on-playa volunteer staff. The evening was deemed a great success and was really a super fun time - our space was shared by the lovely Catherine giving *hot* pole dancing lessons and Captain Erotica offering flagelation to staffers both naughty and nice! Delicious food and company rounded out a fine evening!
The month is off to one helluva rockin' start! Pete, Rory, Michael and I rocked the muthafunkin' hizouse at this year's Dabney Metal Night!! We performed as homeobox lunch and were joined by a sleu of great bands including Alex Shive's my friend william and of course, Dabney's own Metal Band v2005. Michael has a partial recording of our set in good hands that we'll surely add to this page in due time... our setlist was as follows:
Pete, Rory and I have been rehearsing for our upcoming gig - Dabney Metal Night, June 4, Dabnihaus, Pasadena. We've worked up a rockin' setlist of some new numbers as well as some oldies but goodies! We also logged in some time recording a new version of on the prowl and one of Pete's songs angel.
I returned to the radio waves for the first time in a while this month - be sure to check out the latest installment of tea time with the mad hatter (forthcoming...)
Michael and I have written some sax lines for on the prowl - I'm most excited! plus the boyz and I are slated to do a multi-track recording of the song in a few days.
yarr! the unthinkable has happened... while in the process of backing up my latest recordings over 100 gigs of data was lost as my backup volume suffered a major failure! :( I lost the master copies of most all my original work from the past two years - project files, mix CD tracklists... ugh. thankfully the copies of songs on this webserver and other are still available. I've purchased and installed a new DVD burner in order to make non-HDD backups of my work going forward... now that we're getting serious when it comes to recording, individual songs & projects can take many gigs!
I was just down in socal for coachella and made time to see at least snippets of m83, snow patrol, razorlight, jean grae, stereophonics, UNKLE, swayzak, MF doom, sage francis, bauhaus, mercury rev, chemical brothers, coldplay, subtle, diplo, matthew dear, MIA, ben watt, roots manuva, z-trip, new order, armin van buuren, pinback, matmos, nine inch nails, the faint.
